topicWrite a satirical commentary on an issue of your choosing. Use elements of satire in your response. You can choose the genre (ex: news article, short story, rant, opinion paragraph). Write a rant mimicking Rick Mercer's style. The length should be similar to the rants we looked at in class and can be written on a topic of your choosing. Consider the elements of rhetoric and rhetorical appeals. Write a 4 pgph synthesis essay comparing the rhetorical techniques in Coyne's article and Mercer's rant. Synthesis Essay (minimum of 300 words): Assess which character, the woman in “Myth” by Anne Simpson or the protagonist in “Araby” by James Joyce experiences the biggest revelation about love. You must discuss both passages in your essay. Synthesis Essay (minimum 300 words): Past provincial exam: "Cargo Hulks" and excerpt from Breaking Ships. Practicing Beginnings: In-class journal responses using a shoe as a prompt Response 1: Descriptive Response 2: Narrative Response 3: Persuasive Elaborate on one prompt for homework (min.300 words). Discuss the intent of the author in the essay "Why We Hate Fat Americans." One paragraph Discuss the rhetorical intent of one reading. Respond in a well written essay that references the author's intent, audience, and rhetorical appeals. You can write about one of 3 readings: "Letter to Saddam Hussein" by Mary Ewald "A Guy Like Me" by John Scott the example argument you brought to class Write one paragraph agreeing and/or disagreeing with the argument your group analyzed and presented to our class.
